Registries publish the registrant of every domain. Privacy substitutes our details for yours so your home address is not in a public database that spammers scrape. It is included free where the registry permits it — .uk domains have their own opt-out for individuals, which we set for you.
Yes, and we will not make it difficult. Unlock it in the panel, we email the authorisation code, and you are gone. No fee and no retention call. A domain you cannot leave with is not one you own.
On some extensions the registry itself sells a discounted first year to drive adoption — .online and .shop are the obvious ones. We show both numbers side by side before you buy rather than after. On .com, .co.uk and .uk the difference is small and honest.
The registration itself is usually instant. DNS then propagates, which is typically minutes but can be a few hours depending on your ISP. If you bought hosting at the same time we point it at your site automatically.
